Tim and I are officially on the Hobie Fishing Team after many months of contact with the local Hobie representative and the guys at Estero River Outfitters. We tested the new kayaks out today and we honestly could not be happier. What sets the Hobie's apart from every kayak company out there is the mirage drive pedal system. For kayak fishing this means that you will have your hands free to do whatever you want: rig, cast, drink, etc. After using the Revolution today I feel like we have an advantage over every other kayak fisherman simply because our lines will be in the water longer since you don't have to put the rod down and pick up the paddle to move or control your drift. I still have the Native but will more than likely sell it in a few weeks.

Today was probably the calmest it's been thus far in 2010. Even though the tide wasn't ideal, we decided to hit the flats since calm days have been rare around here. The flat we fished was mostly around 5" deep so we had some concerns that the mirage drive would bottom out..not the case. We pushed one pedal forward which allowed the fins to hug the hull of the kayak and in doing so were able to get in realllly shallow water. By fluttering (using short strokes) the fins, we were able to quietly move across the shallow flat, rod in hand. We did not see any tailers but still caught some nice fish. Tim had the hot hand today with a 28" redfish and a 23" trout while I pulled hooks on two reds and a big trout. I believe the total tally was 2 reds and 9 trout. We were throwing the badonk-a-donk and exude soft plastics rigged weedless. I also hit some docks at night near the house for a couple hours and caught a 26" snook on the "glass ghost" rapala xrap.
