Tide: -0.4ft low at 8am, 2.0ft high at 11:05pm
The weather has been gorgeous the past few days here with temperatures resembling summer. This morning Josh and I fished the low tide in Pine Island for tailing redfish. We saw a couple tailing in the early morning fog but were scarce the rest of the day. We both struck out on the reds but caught trout to 21" on every cast for over an hour in the potholes. Also got a 19" pompano on a Twitchin Rap, probably my largest. I went home, took a nap and went back out for some night snookin with Drew. We got a double on snook on the first light, about 23" a piece. A little further down the channel we found the motherload with snook busting on top like it was the middle of summer! There were so many snook on each light that almost every cast resulted in a bite..average was about 22", biggest was 26". DOA CAL was the ticket since the current was so strong. We even caught a 20" trout and a small red grouper amid the school of snook. Crazy. Kind of suprising to me to see all those snook so close to the beach this time of year. I was actually talking with a kayaker who fishes this area a lot and he said these snook never leave even during the coldest months. He actually caught a 34" snook on live shrimp a few minutes before we got there.
