Just a quick rundown of the past two trips. Yesterday Josh and I hit the Orange River (where the powerplant releases warm water) for some big snook. The river is not very wide but is up to 20' deep in some spots. We fished hard with big swimbaits, topwaters, and plugs but didn't come up with much. We found a pretty cool area that doesn't see much current flow but for some reason held the majority of the fish. We saw a couple 60-80lb tarpon freejump along seawalls and I actually had a big 40" class snook follow my crystal minnow. We ended up catching a couple jacks, catfish, and a small snook. I have a buddy who lives on the river and he says the monster snook that winter there will almost never hit an artificial..the key is live ladyfish but that's not my style.
The next day Drew and I fished Pine Island for some flats fishing. It was so windy and cold today that I wasn't expecting much. We launched at 9am and basically casted topwaters all day. Only saw one tailer (perfect tournament fish, just under 27") the whole day that surprisingly hit my super spook jr 10 feet away from us. Didn't spook since the wind was creating white caps in a foot of water! Caught a couple snook and a grouper on th way in but for the most part it was slim pickins.
