Weather: NO WIND
Tide: 1.0ft at 10:30am

Well it is the second week of July now which is probably the second hottest month out of the year in Florida. The gameplan today was...what else? TARPON. We tried a new spot today and it paid off. The first hour was dead, although the manatees were everywhere (and friendly too). There was literally no wind ..it was one of those days you wish you'd have but when it comes you don't want it! The current was slack, the water was bathwaterish warm, and the boats were running everywhere.

Around 10am we moved to the new spot and my dad hooked up on a bull or blacktip shark. Pulled him around for a bit before chewing the 100# leader. We went back to the spot and saw 2 mid-size tarpon rolling. Both of us immediately get our baits in the water and wait. About a minute goes by and my dad's Baitrunner goes off! Tarpon in the air! Been a while that's for sure. This tarpon put on quite a display, clearing the water 4 or 5 times. The tide was quite low so I towed my dad's Native (while he was fighting the tarpon) to a nearby shallow grassflat to land the fish. Not the biggest tarpon but was definitely fun. Girth was 27.25" which puts it around 60lbs. Would have tried for another but the heat was unbelievable. We'll be back at it soon enough!
