Tide: -0.7ft low at 9am
The water clarity has been incredible lately due to the cold weather, absence of bait, and high salinity. This puts the redfish on high alert but it also makes sightfishing from the kayak the best way to target these fish. Today Kyle, Chris, and I fished the negative low tide in Pine Island Sound, just two days after the last front passed. We launched a little after 9 and poled about 2.5 miles before we started seeing fish. It wasn't until the tide came up in the afternoon and the sun reached its peak that they started to eat. We ended up catching one redfish each to 30" and several trout to 22" all sightfished while standing in the Hobies.
