Tide: 1.2ft Low at 10am, High Tide at Night
The Southwest Florida Kayak Anglers Association put on their first ever kayak tournament over the weekend with proceeds benefiting the Lee County Sheriff's Office Fallen Hero Fund. This tournament is a bit more challenging than the IFA events as the species to catch are redfish and snook. You are allowed to start fishing at 7:30pm Friday night and have to be back at the weigh-in at 3pm the next day. A nasty lightning storm moved through just as I launched which made for a helluva scary pedal. As the sun was going down I got into some snook on topwater amid the torrential downpour but none of significant size. I went back to the truck and drove to a launch that I've used for many years for dock snookin only to find no trespassing signs littering the parking lot. I drove around the neighborhood and found an empty lot to put in which looked sketchy but worked okay. I fished til midnight and only got one of those lockjaw bastards to eat. The next day I got a couple reds up to 23.5" in the morning on topwater and a 25.5" snook in the afternoon on the Lil John. The 49" combo was good enough for 3rd place out of 28 people which paid $200 while first place won a Native Ultimate 12 kayak with 55". I was actually tied for 2nd but the other guy checked in before me!
