Tide: 0.6ft Low at 9am
Conditions were looking ideal for a one day bonefish trip down to the Keys so at 3am I loaded up the Pro Angler and hit the road solo. The drive was tough, especially with only two hours of sleep...honestly the only thing that kept me awake was thinking about that lightning fast run a bonefish makes on the initial take. I made a couple of pit spots on the way down and by 7:30am I was on the flat and poling for bones. The water was slick..any movement could easily be detected. I arrived at the shallowest part of the flat..and there they were! Tailer after tailer after tailer. I had six decent shots in the first 20 minutes with shrimp but they weren't buying it. I switched to a small crab and finessed it in front of a school of ten tailers. A few seconds of stillness and silence was followed by my drag screaming while the rest of the school flew off of the flat! Crazy fight. The fish was 30.5" which puts it over 10lb! An hour later I surprisingly got another one, although much smaller, out of a school of 20. I cut out early as the bones were super wary once the sun got high. And to think..the snooze button almost got the best of me this morning!
