Tide: -0.1ft low at 2pm, 1.4ft at 9pm
After the cold front passed through yesterday, I decided to explore a new area today in hopes I would run into some snook seeking warmer water. Without a cloud in sight, I launched the kayak at 12:30pm and started to scout this new body of water. I pedaled around many fishy spots but didn't see a single fish nor a mullet jump. I started to head back and contemplated relaunching the kayak to fish one of my regular spots where I knew there would be action. As I cruised the mangrove shoreline back to the launch, I saw a redfish casually swim past me. Then another. And another. This was supposed to be a snook spot, yet like the flip of a switch, redfish were everywhere! I stood up in the kayak to extend my visibility and saw redfish cruising all over the sandy bottom. A couple of twitches with a DOA and they were all over it. I repeated this scenario of pitching baits to cruising reds until the sun got too low to see them. The fish ranged from 23-28" but what surprised me most was their aggressiveness. The day after a front and they were going out of their way to eat the bait. It's nice to find a place where redfish can be redfish instead of being constantly pressured everyday.
