March 19/20, 2010

Weather: 10-15 mph northwest to south wind, sunny, warm
Tide: 0.6ft low at 9am, 2.0ft high at 2:30pm

Southwest Florida started to act like itself this weekend with highs getting into the low 80s. Everything seemed to come back to life on the flats after a loooong winter. I fished pretty much all day friday and saturday..it was good to feel a warm breeze again for a change. I launched four different times in two days trying to follow the tide and did decent. The trout bite was phenomenal, probably catching over 30 of them, 9 of which were over 20". I hit some lights at night and had a decent snook bite going until I ran out of leader and had to call it early. Drew and I fished some rock piles where we caught spanish macs, bluefish, ladyfish, and one gag grouper at 20.5". I was mainly using super fluke jr soft plastics and Rapala Shad Raps. There were some great photo opportunities out there, just wish I still had my good camera. The next few weeks is the transition period so the fishing will start to get crazy as long as the remaining fronts are mild and short-lived.
